Университет Брауна в городе Провиденс (Providence), штат Род-Айленд, основан баптистами в 1764 г. Название «Браунский» получил в 1804 г. по имени торговца Николаса Брауна (Nicholas Brown), внесшего наибольшие пожертвования в его фонд;
